Day 2 — Prompt Response12 Jun 2026

The thing I keep meaning to make

I have been carrying this project for three years. Every morning I think about it before I think about anything else. Before the coffee is made. Before I check anything.

It is a series of paintings about land and memory — the way specific places hold specific losses. I have done the research. I have sketched. I have the reference photographs in three different folders on three different hard drives.

The moment I usually stop: when I open a blank canvas. Something tightens. The project becomes enormous. I tell myself I need more time, better materials, a cleaner space, a quieter life.

What the story reveals: I am afraid it won’t be as good as what it is in my head. That the making will shrink the imagining. That the painted version will be evidence of my limits rather than my reach.
